What is Virtual Web Hosting?

Web Hosting is having your web site on an Internet Server. Megaton offers high-speed Internet Servers and High Speed Internet connections. We store your web site and make sure that it can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Do you offer dial-up internet access?

No, we do not provide dial-up access. We have devoted all of our resources to Web Hosting. Because of this, we are able to give you Premium Quality Web Hosting services at very affordable prices. With local access, you simply use FTP to upload your files to our servers.

Do you offer web page design services?

Yes, Megaton does provide site development and maintenance services. We also work with people who specialize in all aspects of site development, programming and promotion. If you are interested in having your site created, maintained or promoted please contact us.

How do I transfer files to my web site?

Your files are transferred to our web servers via File Transfer Protocol (FTP). FTP software is available for both PC and Macintosh. For the PC we recommend WS_FTP and for the Macintosh we recommend Fetch. Internet providers such as AOL, Compuserve, and Prodigy may have built-in FTP interfaces.

Will I have unlimited access to my pages?

Yes, you will have unlimited access via FTP 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

Can I use my account for commercial purposes?

Yes. You may use your account for commercial purposes, subject to MEGATON Policy.

Can I resell space within my own account?

Yes. You may resell space in your account.

Do you accept international orders?

Yes, we currently host web sites for customers in many other countries. It is also possible for us to host your non-US domains (ie business.co.ca). For overseas orders we accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Bank Wire-Transfer of funds (in minimum 3 month terms, $10 service charge) in US currency.

Do you offer technical support?

Yes, we encourage our customers to send email to our support department with questions about their web site. When your domain is set up you will receive helpful documentation and instructions.

How long does it take to set up a new account?

Your server will be set up with one business day.

What are your account policies?

In summary, we do not accept any sites that are adult/related in any way. We do not allow Spam. We do not allow illegal activity. Please be aware that copyright and tradename protection applies to the internet and severe penalties can be imposed.

Technical Questions

Does the web server support SSI's?

Yes. Our web server does support SSI's. There are several types of SSI's that have been disabled for security reasons, however, in most cases there are work-arounds.

Can I install my own cgi scripts?

Yes. All cgi scripts must be written in PERL. We have installed PERL version 5 with DB, NDBM, and GDBM support. We also have sendmail, cgiwrap, and many others...Since PERL is the language of choice for cgi scripts, there are hundreds of PERL cgi scripts available on the internet for free download and use.

Can I install ansi-c cgi scripts?

No. You can only install cgi scripts written in PERL in your cgi-bin directory. There are hundreds of PERL cgi scripts available for free download on the Internet.

Which cgi scripts do you have pre-installed?

We currently have a guestbook, web2mail gateway, counters and other pre-installed for your use with complete online documentation. Please see www.megaton.net/help

How do I debug my PERL scripts without telnet?

Although we have a web-based cgi script debugging facility, it is our recommendation that you install PERL on your local machine if your considering doing a lot of cgi programming in PERL.

Can I create directories in my account?

Yes. You are free to create directories to better organize your web site, as well as to resell any additional space you may have in your account.

Do you offer telnet access?

No. We do not offer telnet access. All account features can be maintained through FTP. Directories can be created, permissions can be changed, etc.

Domain Name Questions

Can I have my own domain name?

Yes, anyone can have their own domain name.

How can I check domain name availability?

Simply visit our "Whois" to search for and register domains.

Does MEGATON handle domain registration?

Yes, we do. Simply visit "Whois".

Can I transfer my existing domain to MEGATON's Servers?

Yes, much of our business consists of transferred domains.

How long does it take before my domain name is active?

New domains are active within 24 to 48 hours. Transfers take about the same time.

What is the InterNIC fee for domain transfers and new domain registration?

There is NO InterNIC fee to transfer an existing domain. New domains can be registered for  $15/yr. Click here to Register Domains.

Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the WWW.?

Yes, for example, your site will be available via both: www.YOURSITE.com, and YOURSITE.com.

If I am a Reseller my customers know about MEGATON?

Our goal is to stay "invisible", or behind the scene. All of our correspondence, bills etc. go to you, not to the end-user.
